One stormy night, Joe was in an accident and killed after hitch-hiking a lift on Gallows Hill. Forty years later, he’s still hitching a lift. One stormy night Alex picks up Joe and soon realizes that he’s giving a lift to a ghost. After several encounters, Alex and Joe fall for each other. But what can happen when one is living and the other dead? Well, for a story that is only ten thousand words, it melted my heart and managed to have a couple of twists in it. Rarely does a story so short affect me so much.full review posted here : http://lovebytesreviews.com/2019/10/15/release-day-review-the-low-road-by-eleanor-harkstead/

Local legends and tales of ghosts blend with vivid imagery and a large dash of romance in Eleanor Harkstead’s short story, The Low Road. In very few pages Harkstead gives us a colorful tale by capturing the mood with expressive descriptions and presenting an intimate view of two lonely souls looking for love. I found this story completely entrancing and I really enjoyed the mystery of it all. Is Joe just a figment of Alex’s imagination? Does Joe know he’s a ghost? How can these two possibly get their happily-ever-after? The Low Road had me on the edge of my seat till the very last moment, and it’s been a long time since a romantic mystery story did that for me.
